Recipe Love

This page is dedicated to my love of cooking and baking. I am always on the hunt for new recipes that give me ideas for delectable desserts, successful dinners, wonderful brunches, and entertaining for my family and friends.
Cooking is a form of art in a very palatable fashion. I find myself always watching the Cooking Channel every morning and in turn, this channel makes me want to go into my kitchen to create and concoct a gem of a dish!

My husband Michael is such a picky eater, who declares he is allergic to all vegetables except corn and potatoes! It's funny but frustrating at the same time. The recipes I find, I end up altering to my husband's taste. Scandalous I know! On this part of the site, I will blog about my favorite recipes, the successful and the not so successful ones.

A successful recipe I created Thursday night based on an old family favorite. Of course I altered the recipe a bit to suit the taste of my husband, Michael. At first he saw me add onions into my sauté pan and said "It smells good but I don't think I'll eat that." I just wanted to mention again his severe dislike of vegetables! It's amazing that he ate it at all without the gag reflex! He loved it and wants me to make it again real soon, so I consider this recipe a great success. :)

Potato and Spam Chowder

1 medium onion chopped
1 TBS butter
1 (12-oz) can spam (or you can use chunks of ham if you don't like Spam)
1 (10.75 oz) can condensed
chicken broth
1 C water
8 potatoes peeled and diced
1/4 tsp pepper
Pinch of salt
1 1/2 cups skim milk

Directions

In medium saucepan sauté onion in butter until tender. Add spam, stirring frequently til it's a golden brown about 3-5 minutes.

Add broth, milk, water, potatoes and pepper to the onions and spam mixture.

Cover and cook until potatoes are soft.

Note:** take out about 2 cups broth and put in separate bowl and whisk in flour then add to chowder to thicken!

Yum!! The perfect comfort food and easy peasy! Hope you enjoy it!

So I finally made my own homemade sugar scrub for my hands which really take a beating!
I am constantly washing my hands and even more so when I am prepping dinner or any other meals in the kitchen. They end up dry and my cuticles look terrible!! I plan on using this on my feet too! Nothing like having soft feet before bedtime :)

Lemon Sugar Hand Scrub

I used:

1 cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Lemon juice (experiment with the quantity till you get just the right amount of lemon scent in your scrub)

You can also use a lemon essential oil in place of lemon juice if you wish. I like to add a little zest of lemon into the mix and I find that brown sugar works better than the white because it really just washes off too quickly under the water.

2 1/2 cups brown sugar

Note: For really dry, rough hands consider scrubbing your hands and then wrapping them in plastic wrap for about 10-15 minutes and use a damp towel and heat in the microwave just enough to get the towel warm. Not steaming hot to the touch! Wrap your towel around your hands or feet and just relax for a few minutes. Give the olive oil a chance to work its magic and soak into your skin. This batch actually makes quite a bit, I put mine in a 13 ounce olive jar and still had a few uses leftover that wouldn't fit into the jar! So I just put the rest in another container that I could use next to my sink in the kitchen. I'm not sure how long the shelf life is but I guess I will find out!

This is my own photo of the scrub I made.
Notice the size of the jar :)

**The idea for this recipe has to be credited to the following website, even though I altered it to my own tastes, the idea and recipe still belongs to them :) Thanks Tip Junkie! My hands feel great, now the real test--is it good enough for an at home pedicure? We'll see!!

Rinse off and you have such baby soft hands!
